Elastomeric Bearing
Elastomeric bearing is composed of layers of rubber and steel plates. Rubber has the characteristic of low horizontal stiffness, which extends the vibration period of the bridge, thereby reducing the acceleration of the structure under earthquakes. In addition, elastomeric bearing deforms horizontally when the bridge is under thermal expansion. Moreover, rubber reinforced by steel plates has the characteristic of high vertical stiffness, which stably carries vertical load. Based on the above advantages, the elastomeric bearing is suitable for various types of bridges.
